Police are investigating after a car and a cyclist were involved in a collision in Althorne.

Officers were called to Burnham Road by the ambulance service at about 4.45pm on Thursday.

A 64-year-old man from Burnham received serious, but not life threatening, injuries and was taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, where he is still receiving treatment.

The driver of a silver Citroen C5, an 81-year-old man from Burnham, was uninjured.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw the vehicles prior to the crash, or have any other information, to call PC Mel Warren at Chelmsford road policing unit on 101.
