Calls for villagers to use artistic phone box
An artist who transformed a disused phone box into an art gallery is appealing for villagers to revitalise it.
Euan Boyd-Wallis, 60, transformed the red phone booth outside the DuCane Arms pub in Tiptree Road, Great Braxted into what is known as the UK’s smallest art gallery in 2011.
The unusual space was used to showcase the creative works of residents living around it until a matter of months ago when Mr Boyd Wallis moved out of the village after 30 years.
Now living in Lincolnshire, he is appealing for residents to give it a new lease of life and take care of what could be a Guinness World Record holder.
Mr Boyd-Wallis, who also used to live in Tiptree Road and ran a bespoke framers, said: “When I left the village I took down most of the pictures but left one or two of my own incase they were vandalised.
“I took off the padlock so people could still use it and enjoy it if they wanted.
“If someone wants to take it on and keep it as a gallery, that would be fantastic."
