A hooded man tried to mug a teenage girl in Maldon town centre as she was walking alone after school.

The 15-year-old Plume School pupil, from Maldon, was walking along Mundon Road between 4pm and 4.40pm when she was attacked.

The man, who is believed to have been part of a group of six men, demanded she hand her over cash and her mobile phone.

When she ignored him and carried on walking, he pulled on the back of her school blazer.

In a bid to get away, the young girl stamped on the man’s foot and ran off.

Police said no weapon was used in the attack last Tuesday.

Although the man is thought to have been part of a group, nobody else approached the girl.

Police said she was left upset by the incident.

The man involved is described as white, aged in his 30’s and he spoke with what is believed to be a Polish accent.

He was wearing blue jeans, white trainers and a grey hooded top with the hood up.

Underneath the hood, he was also wearing a blue baseball cap.
