Burnham: Councillors to decide on CEFAS building tonight
The latest attempt to replace a redundant Government building with houses is set to be rejected by district councillors.
Maldon district councillors are due to make a decision on applicant Paul Stoodley’s plans for the CEFAS (Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Agriculture Science) site in Remembrance Avenue, Burnham, at a planning and licensing committee meeting tonight.
He hopes to replace the former office and laboratory site, which was on the market for £1.2million last year, with seven townhouses and seven detached houses - each with four or five bedrooms.
But planning officers have recommended the committee refuse permission.
They said although there is no objection in principle to housing, “the proposed layout and scale of the development is considered to represent an uncharacteristic development in a sensitive historic context which would not preserve or enhance the character or appearance of the Burnham conservation area”.
