Maldon district: Hundreds of pupils affected as teachers strike
Hundreds of pupils were affected as schools across the district were shut or partly closed when teachers striked.
Teachers held the walk out over pay and conditions on Tuesday.
The majority of schools were fully open or at least partly open but Plume School in Maldon, William de Ferrers School in South Woodham Ferrers and St Francis Primary School in Maldon announced total closures.
David Stephenson, Plume School headteacher, said: “We have to risk assess whether the children are safe and there’s no way we can ensure their safety.
“We do not know how many staff are taking action but we know a considerable amount are then it is impossible to safeguard the children.”
Parents have criticised the action, saying it will leave them out of pocket and disrupt their children’s education.
