Maldon/Chelmsford: Update: Man dies in road crash

A teenager has died in a road crash.
Emergency services were called to Bicknacre, at about 9.40pm on Saturday.
Police said a white Ford Escort van carrying four passengers left the road and struck a tree in Leighams Road.
The man, from the Chelmsford area, died at the scene.
Another man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries and two others required treatment for minor injuries.
Essex Police spokesman said the driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old man, from the Chelmsford area, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.
He was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries and then questioned at Chelmsford Police Station.
The man has been released on bail until October 10 pending further inquiries.
A section of the road was closed for five and a half hours while forensic collision investigators examined the scene.
Firefighters from South Woodham and Great Baddow attended the scene.
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service Trust said: “We sent two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance officer and a medic from the BASICS scheme to the incident.
“Sadly, an 18-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and our thoughts are with the friends and family at this tragic time.
“One further person was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries sustained in the collision.”
