Maldon: Stroke survivor urges people to check their blood pressure
9:00am Tuesday 1st October 2013 in News
A stroke patient is urging people to get their blood pressure checked.
Abnormal blood pressure could indicate potential health problems, one of the most common being strokes.
The NHS has launched a campaign in Essex to get people tested and the East of England Ambulance Service has found ten per cent of the 1,000 people it has checked this year have needed to be referred to their doctor.
Barbara Witham, of Lindisfarne Court, Maldon, had not suffered any symptoms before suffering a stroke in July 2009, which left her in hospital for three months.
She said: “A blood pressure check before my stroke could have prevented it.”
Barbara is a volunteer with The Maldon and Dengie Stroke Support Group, which meets at Fullbridge Church Hall every fortnight on Thursdays.
