Maldon: Heybridge family on look out as thieves target fire-hit home
A family whose home was destroyed after a blaze ripped through their house are on high alert after people have been spotted trying to get inside.
Mark Anstey, 57, watched in horror with his wife Sara and son Richard as a fire, which began in the loft last Tuesday, engulfed their roof and caused the first-floor ceiling to cave in.
The family, who have lived in the house for 14 years, were told it will be uninhabitable for six to eight months.
The heartache doesn’t stop there though after people have been spotted trying to access the property through the front door, believed to be trying to steal possessions.
Dad-of-two Mr Anstey, a special needs co-ordinator at William de Ferrers school in South Woodham Ferrers, said: “There have been countless cars coming up the cul-de-sac."
