Burnham: Yacht owner gives youngsters chance to set sail
3:00pm Sunday 15th September 2013 in News
The owner of a historic yacht has set up a generous fund to put the lives of disadvantaged youngsters on track through experiencing a sea voyage.
The century-old Duet has been in the Courtauld family since 1931, after the Reverend Christopher Courtauld’s father, Arctic explorer Augustine, bought her in Burnham.
It is now used by the Cirdan Sailing Trust in Bradwell to take young people on voyages to help build their confidence and in some cases, move them away from a life of crime or drugs.
Mr Courtauld has now set up an endowed fund, The Duet Fund, which will be run by the Essex Community Foundation (ECF) and pay for the training courses.
