Maldon: Calls to scrap selling of voters' details
10:00am Tuesday 10th September 2013 in News
Campaigners have highlighted how information about voters in the Maldon district is available to anyone willing to pay for it.
Maldon District Council is one of 307 local authorities to have sold information from May 1, 2007 to May 1, 2012.
The Big Brother Watch campaign group, which compiled the findings, said 12 individuals bought information.
The edited electoral register was introduced in 2002 and can be bought by anyone.
Councils have no power to refuse a request to buy information.
