Maldon: 'If we can't have Wetherspoons, we should have a cinema'
Calls have been made to convert Maldon’s former post office into a cinema after a pub giant ditched plans to open in the town.
District councillors gave the go-ahead for JD Wetherspoon to take over the vacant building in the High Street in February.
But the chain pulled out after constraints such as being unable to open windows and not having a beer garden.
Now residents are taking it into their own hands after multiple suggestions were made to change the building, believed to be on the market for £500,000, into a small cinema.
Former Plume School pupil Kev Jennings, 34, of Fambridge Road, Maldon, posted on The Standard’s Facebook page: “How about everyone in favour of a cinema sends a email to their ideal choice of cinema company, selling a fantastic building and future prospect to them at the same time?”
