South Woodham Ferrers: Animals keep cool in summer heat

The recent spells of hot weather have not only left humans desperately trying to keep cool.
The animals of Tropical Wings in South Woodham Ferrers resorting to some resourceful ways of surviving the heat.
Numerous animals, including baby ring tailed lemur Yoda, have been munching on ice lollies made offruit and water, whilst snowy owls have been lying beside frozen bottles of water to cool down as temperatures have reached 30C in recent weeks.
Zoo manager John Ray said: “We have to take special care of our albino wallabies, who have to be sprayed with factor 50 sun lotion to make sure don’t burn."
