Burnham: Overnight roadworks cause chaos Burnham: Overnight roadworks cause chaos

Burnham residents have been left outraged after roadworks effectively gave them a curfew to be home by 7pm every night - or risk being turned away from their road.

Workmen from Essex County Council Highways department began resurfacing Maldon Road last Wednesday and worked overnight, causing residents to be left awake by the noise.

One Burnham mum even likened the din to an army marching through the street.

The contractors seem to have done a decent resurfacing job.. The big question now is how quickly a utility or telecoms provider digs it up again, thereby creating weak points all over again

My bet is 2 months ..

“ Overnight roadworks cause chaos” Where was this then? I've travelled in/out of Burnham whilst this work has been going-on and had oooooh 1-2mins added to my journey time, I'd hardly call that 'chaos' just a minor (not even worth moaning about to the local paper) inconvenience.

“ Burnham residents have been left outraged. “ Hold-on! I live in Burnham, I'm not outraged one bit, more like baffled as to why the best bit of the B1010 between Burnham and SWF needed to be ripped-up and replaced? But that those 'crazyeee' councils for you, getting rid of their surplus cash before April's deadline.

Anyway, the new surface is kushti, smooth enough for an Army to march-on without waking-up the residents.

As a resident of Maple Way...

To the nice chaps and chapesses who have now moved on to re-surfacing Springfield Road...

IT'S 3AM AND I'M TRYING TO SLEEP!!!!

Or at least I was, but have given up now. I'll just have a nap while I'm at the wheel in the morning instead.

It was when you follow the diversion to get into Burnham, then when you get to the Church Road / Maldon Road junction to be told "Sorry mate - Road's closed you'll have to go back around and in the other end".....So you go back round to the other end to be told "Sorry mate - Road's closed you'll have to go round to the other end"

err... How do I get home?!

“ err... How do I get home?! “

(a) Use the power of communication we are gifted with to politely explain the situation to the contractor giving directions, after all chances are he doesn't know where you live and he's just doing his job (keeping the public safe).

If that fails...Park-up at the nearest place possible and walk home, then retrieved the car in the morning...Burnham is hardly a sprawling city, you can walk from one end to the other in ½ hour so Chruch road to the opposite end of Maple Way ooooohhh 10mins maximum.

That sounds like a very responsible thing to do...

Just a normal day for High St residents. Noisy from 6am until 2am. Get over yourselves.
