Maldon: Plea for lower speed limit on crash road
11:00am Wednesday 20th March 2013 in News
Residents and workers on a road where a person died last week are calling for a lower speed limit.
All three emergency services attended the smash, where two cars and a lorry were in collision, on Maldon Road, Woodham Mortimer, on Friday morning.
The serious incident left police with no choice but to close the road between its junction with Lodge Road and Wycke Hill roundabout, near Morrisons in Maldon.

It seems people 'plea' for lower speed limits automatically after any sort of accident on the roads, regardless of what actually caused it. The authorities seem to go along with these demands & pleas, if vocal enough, as it makes them look like they're doing something. & it's a fraction of the cost of providing a real answer.

If speed limits are reduced there is more time to correct human mistakes and when impacts occur less damage is done.
I would have thought it was a no-b
rainer.

Lower speed limits concentrate the mind and act as a reminder to take more care.
When I see that a road is 40mph rather than 60 mph it alerts me as a driver to take my time and be on the alert for hazards.
Driving at a safe speed for the conditions means that I am then less likely to cause an accident. It also gives me more time to react to the idiot coming round the blind bend over the white line and above the speed limit.

So if lower speed limits 'concentrate the mind & act as a reminder to take more care', why are there more deaths on roads with lower limits than the roads with the highest?
& if your theory is correct you'd never meet an 'idiot coming round the blind bend over the white line & above the speed limit' anyway, as the speed limit must surly 'concentrate their mind' as well?
& you reckon my comment was ridiculous!!

As tragic as it is that someone has lost their life - there is no need to reduce the speed limit.
