St Lawrence: Gas prices inflame residents
5:00pm Thursday 7th March 2013 in News By Emma Robinson
Residents on the Anchorage View estate are angry about rising gas prices
A mum-of-five is aiming to set up a campaign to reduce her gas bills after she was left horrified by the rising prices.
Joanne King, 32, of Medley Way in St Lawrence, has had to go without food and has sent her children, one as young as two, to bed in their dressing gowns in a bid to not use the heating.
The stay-at-home mum was left with a gas bill of £258 last month from the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supplier, Flogas, after a concerted effort to not use the heating as much - and has sometimes seen her bill reach £700.
She now believes more than 200 people on the estate, which also includes Anchorage View, are paying different prices for gas from the two mains tanks.
Mrs King, who has lived on the estate for seven years and owns a four-bed house, said: “I just can’t afford it anymore, it’s ridiculous."
