Maldon: Carnival organisers undefeated by Beyonce no show Maldon: Carnival organisers undefeated by Beyonce no show

Organisers of Maldon carnival are still hoping to clinch a superstar performance after they couldn’t afford Beyoncé’s appearance fee.

Members of the Maldon Carnival Association, who audaciously asked the American popstar to appear at the event in August but didn’t realise they would have to pay £50,000, have received offers from X Factor contestants and Essex singers - but are still holding out for an A-Lister.

Since The Standard broke the news last week, the association’s bid for a famous guest has hit national and international news, including The New York Times and CNN as well as news outlets in Germany, Australia and New Zealand.

Ruth O’Leary, vice-chairman of Maldon Carnival Association, said the sudden media attention was “bonkers”.

She said: “It’s amazing to tell people about this amusing story, it’s absolutely hilarious."

Why not hold fund raisers and get local businesses involved to raise the money?
It can't be that difficult to get a few of the millionaires that live in the surrounding areas to pitch in and we could raffle off a few exclusive tickets to meet her. Think of all the publicity & income the town would get if we pulled this off.
It would be 100 times more successful than the damp days of an Olympic candle flapping down the road for 30 seconds?!
