Burnham: Latest plans for Cefas building objected Burnham: Latest plans for Cefas building objected

Plans to turn an “eyesore” office block in Burnham into 14 houses have been objected.

Town councillors voted to object the proposal to knock down the former Government fisheries laboratory, Cefas, in Remembrance Avenue, and build 14 houses at a planning meeting on Monday.

They decided to object on the grounds that the proposed development is “over dominant” and out of scale with residential properties in the surrounding area.

OK, So the Town Council 'objects'. That doesn't mean that MDC won't allow the Planning Application anyway.

Does anyone know if all the applicant gets is the 'over dominant' reason or do they also get some constructive (pardon the pun) advice as to what MIGHT be an acceptable proposal?

When we (residents) object or respond to the planning application, we can at least state what our concerns actually are. Personally I think houses are preferable to the current eyesore but the demolition and rebuild WILL impact on both Coronation Road and Remembrance Avenue and although inevitable, much assurance about keeping this to a minimum as part of the proposal would go a long way.

Our concerns? Well the main ones are damage to the road, trees or culvert in Remembrance Avenue. The removal of any hazardous materials such as asbestos during demolition. And the negative impact on pile driving in the light of alleged damage to the foundations of house(s) near to the recent development in Coronation Road. Longer term concerns are increased traffic out of a narrow road onto a busy junction.
