Maldon: Mystery tweeter impersonates MP John Whittingdale

A mystery tweeter has begun impersonating Maldon’s MP.

A Twitter account (pictured), under the name ‘@jwhittingdalemp’, has been set up - but John Whittingdale insists it is not him.

So far the fake Whittingdale has tweeted just three times and has gained only a handful of followers.

Just over a week ago, the unknown tweeter first posted “Welcome to my new twitter presence. I promise to be sparing in its use.”

Since then, there have been two further tweets relating to interviews with Sky News and The Standard.

But the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee chairman said he had not tweeted and had no idea the account even existed.
