A father-of-two is protesting his innocence after going on trial in Spain over the drowning of a fellow tourist 16 years ago.
Kitchen fitter Darren Sapstead, a former Plume School pupil who grew up in Heybridge, is accused of pushing Garry Walton to his death during a pleasure boat cruise in November 1996.
Garry, 21, died after falling from a boat off the Tenerife resort of Playa de Las Americas in an incident orifinally written off by Spanish police as an accident.
