Pop megastar Beyonce almost came to Maldon.

Organisers of this year’s Maldon Carnival have invited a whole host of A-List celebrities to come to the event in August, but have so far met with rejections.

Invites have been sent to public relations officers responsible for Beyonce, Britney Spears, Rod Stewart, Will I Am, Jessie J, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Rita Ora and even the Queen.

Although many celebrities and famous figures have turned down the opportunity, Beyonce did initially seem interested.

But after a meeting with a representative in Chelmsford, it became clear that the committee could not afford a £50,000 appearance fee.

Why don't they ask the founder of J. D. Wetherspoon, Tim Martin. I'm sure the opening of his Maldon hostelry could be delayed further to coincide with the carnival.

Why not ask the *Celebrity* Gay Dads? I'm sure that they'd do it free and put £100 in the collection tin......wouldn't they?
