Essex: Pledge to repair potholes
An additional £35million will be spent repairing potholes in the county’s road network.
County Hall has pledged the cash over the next two years to improve road surfaces, with the first £15million being spent in 2013-14.
The money was found after the government’s final funding settlement for the council was confirmed and is on top of money already earmarked for road repairs.
Essex County Council leader Peter Martin said: “In view of continuing cold winters and wet springs there’s a need to invest more and more money in maintaining our road network.
“We hope this investment will be welcomed by the public, road users and those in business who convey products and services around the county.
“We are only able to do this because of the remarkable success of our transformation programme and savings we have been able to make by reducing costs.”

Funny how, just before an election, they decide it is OK to spend some of this money after all!
