A former armed policeman has opened a coffee shop.

Retired Met officer Andy Beck, whose roles included protecting Margaret Thatcher and the Queen Mother, has recently opened a café and takeaway at Mayland Marina.

During the father-of-two’s 30 years in the Met, he was based at Buckingham Palace, St James’s Palace and 10 Downing Street.

“I prefer catering to policing.

“You’re still dealing with the public, but they are slightly nicer in this situation,” he joked.
