Do you always give something up for lent? Why not do it differently this year and give something back instead?

Right Reverend John Wraw, the Bishop of Bradwell, and Essex County Council are encouraging people to give up their time and help others, rather than giving up chocolate or wine from February 13 to March 30.

Residents could help a neighbour by offering to do the shopping or odd jobs around the house.

Mr Wraw said: “Lent Invest is offering help, care, support where they are needed in our communities and neighbourhoods; each of us doing our part to create a society which is based on generosity and love.”

Councillor John Aldridge, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care added: “This is a real opportunity for people to come together and make a difference in the lives of their neighbours and their community.”
