Zebras, tigers and leopards were loose in a Maldon school - but there was no cause for alarm.

More than 50 pupils at Plume College swapped their uniforms for the day with colourful and animal print onesies, all-in-one outfits fashionable with youngsters, in aid of charity.

The effort, which saw pupils go to lessons in their pyjamas, was organised by pupils in honour of fellow sixth former Sam Richards who suffered a horrific brain injury in September.

The popular 18-year-old son fractured his skull and suffered brain damage after a fall in the Oak Tree Meadow play area in Heybridge.

He is now in rehabilitation in Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow.
