A family have been left homeless after a fire tore through their bungalow.

Fire crews from Burnham, South Woodham Ferrers and Maldon went to the scene in East End Road, Bradwell, at 5.46pm on Monday.

Shortly before 6.30pm, incident commander, assistant divisional officer reported that the whole of the property was "well alight", but everyone was accounted for.

Steve Tachauer, village shop manager and parish councillor, described the fire as an "inferno".

Local residents say they are surprised by the time it took the fire crews to arrive at this fire, but is it surprising?

Sadly there is a false sense of security in having a fire station in Tillingham when, as so often the case, the crews are not available to respond to such incidents and crews have to respond from Burnham, Maldon or South Woodham.
