Train users encouraged to make use of couple's discount

TRAIN users are being encouraged to avail of a new ticket which will allow a couple to travel with a 25 per cent discount.

Greater Anglia has launched the Duo ticket to mark the end of regular weekend engineering work, which has seen bus replacement services operating between some stations on Saturdays and Sundays for some years.

The Duo is available from all mainline stations south of Manningtree, including Colchester, Clacton, Harwich, Braintree and Chelmsford.

It can be used when two adults buy a super off peak day return. The second adult’s ticket is charged at half the usual price.

Tickets can be bought from greateranglia.co.uk or at the station.

So just because I have no friends I now have to subsidise couples

This sounds a good idea in principle but I wonder if it allows travel only south of Manningtree. In any case, I suspect Greater Anglia will come in for criticism from customers whose local station is north of Manningtree.

I don't travel at weekends as I have to look after the kids whilst my wife travels to work in London. She and all those that have to travel every weekend have had to endure ALL the rail replacements. It is these people who should be given a discount not some couple who probably didn't need to travel during the engineering works. I guess the person in Greater Anglia who thought this one up is the same id.. sorry.. person who thinks its a good idea to lift restrictions on peak time travel during school holidays....Absolute
ly no consideration for regular travellers but benefits for 'day-trippers' !!

Its a similar deal to the 4 for 2 deal but no doubt that's no good for you either.

"Absolutely no consideration for regular travellers but benefits for 'day-trippers' !!"

To be honest, if you were running a business would you want to reduce the number of users to keep those who have already paid happier or increase the number and increase profit? Also consider that some of us season ticket holders don't mind additional passengers.
