Chelmsford: Thug jailed for vicious attack in Hooga bar Chelmsford: Thug jailed for vicious attack in Hooga bar

A man has been jailed for two years for the unprovoked assault of a man which has left him requiring hospital care for the rest of his life.

Nicky Bowers, 26, from Wigston Road, Newham, east London, appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court yesterday where he was jailed for causing grievous bodily harm to a 50-year-old man from Chelmsford inside the Hooga bar in Victoria Road, Chelmsford, on August 11, 2012.

Bowers was also sentenced to three months for common assault on a friend of the victim, which will be served concurrently. He had previously pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.

Senior Investigating Officer, DI Anne Cameron said: "This assault was completely unprovoked and has left a man seriously ill and in a condition which means he will never be able to care for himself or lead a normal life.

"His life and the lives of his family have been dramatically changed forever following the mindless actions of a man who can only be described as a thug.

"The fact that Nicky Bowers will spend time in prison means he will be unable to ruin anyone else’s life for that period.”

Kiran Vadnagra's family have issued the following statement:

"Kiran is a very good family man with three children. He ran his own successful business, loved life and has many friends. His business meant the world to him.

Kiran loved family holidays, travel, socialising and had many things he still wanted to achieve and experience.

Nothing prepares you for having to see a loved one like this. Kiran had severe double frontage brain damage. He cannot walk, talk, eat or drink. He is just a shell of the man he used to be.

His children are all devastated. They don’t even know if Kiran knows who they are. They can’t share things with him or ask him for advice. None of us known what lies ahead."
