A lego re-enactment of the Battle of Maldon has proved to be an internet sensation.

The production, which can been seen on YouTube, shows the plastic figures acting out scenes from the famous Viking invasion, believed to have taken place in AD 991.

Created by David Waugh of DTG Productions in 2010, the 14-minute film has now been watched almost 400,000 times.

A duplicate of the film, with Old English subtitles, has also had over 10,000 hits.

Local historian Stephen Nunn said he was a fan of the 21st century twist on the battle.
