Maldon district: New scheme to launch following abolition of council tax benefit

Two thousand households across the district will feel the squeeze when council tax benefit is abolished in April.

As part of the government’s welfare reforms, council tax benefit will be abolished and residents will instead be able to seek help with their council tax under a new locally agreed scheme.

However, councils will receive about 10% less funding for the new scheme, meaning that Maldon District Council has had to reduce its benefit budget by about £518,000.

Government funding changes will mean that from April about 2,000 households will have to contribute towards their bill.
Anyone who is worried about paying their council tax can contact the council for help and advice on 01621 854477 or email contact@maldon.gov.uk
