Two friends needed rescuing after their boat ran aground.

The Thames Coastguard received a call from a concerned member of the public shortly after 10pm yesterday, who reported his two friends aground and broken down on their 42ft boat on Foulness Sands at the entrance to the River Crouch.

Burnham RNLI Lifeboat and the Southend Coastguard crew were sent to deal with the incident.

On arrival the Southend crew were able to get the casualty visual and direct the lifeboat to them.

The lifeboat then took up a tow to Paglesham where the crew of the casualty vessel were landed ashore to Southend Coastguard and given safety advice.
