Stow Maries: Aerodrome wins national heritage award

Cllr Bob Boyce, Russell Savory and Cllr Mrs Penny Channer
The efforts of volunteers across the district to save Maldon’s heritage have been celebrated in a national competition.
Stow Maries Aerodrome has won an English Heritage Angel Award after Steve Wilson and Russell Savory stepped in to save the site from closure.
Forty volunteers from across the district regularly work at the aerodrome in Stow Maries to restore it to its former glory.
They are involved in repairing and painting the 22 buildings in the hope of completely restoring the aerodrome in four years’ time.
The aerodrome was crowned a winner at a ceremony at the Palace Theatre on Monday hosted by Andrew Lloyd Webber and featuring Graham Norton as a special guest.
