Villagers are campaigning to close their post office after a ballot has been issued urging residents to save it.

Residents in Bradwell are set to decide whether they should keep the village’s post office by adding the running cost to their council tax.

Essex County Council funding, which has run the post office for three years, will run out in April.

Parish councillors have handed out ballot papers to homeowners, asking whether the council should add the £9,800 a year costs to its annual precept.

This could add up to 60p extra per week on residents’ council tax, amounting to more than £31 a year.

Eight residents posted Vote No leaflets to Bradwell households on Thursday, to urge residents to vote against adding the post office’s running costs to the council tax.
