Volunteers inducted into the Essex Police family
NEW recruits have been welcomed into the world of policing.
At a special induction at Essex Police headquarters in Chelmsford, volunteers, who will be working at One Place in Burnham, were invited to be formally brought into the Essex Police family on Friday May 9.
The 11 volunteers, who are all from the Burnham area, already provide a service at One Place in the High Street and are available to listen to any issues the public may have.
They will be in a position to advise residents or will pass their concerns on to the police to deal with if necessary.
The volunteers were given a tour around headquarters and shown where they fit into the structure of things there.
Chief Insp Nick Lee of Maldon police has hailed the new recruits as a "great help to the police".
He said: "It's great for Essex Police to have them at One Place.
"They are giving parts of their day to help the community and will deliver an opportunity for people to report incidents face to face.
"Friendly volunteers will on hand to give them answers and make the public feel reassured and safe."
Services are already up and running at One Place but an official opening ceremony is due to take place on June 20.
