A SPECTACULAR scenic ride 200ft above Southend seafront has been revealed as part of a new multi-million pound investment.

Philip Miller, the driving force behind Adventure Island, hopes the new ride will be open by February next year.

The ride will stretch across the western side of the theme park, offering uninterrupted views of the Thames estuary and Southend seafront.

Adventure Island spokesman Marc Miller said: "This is an entirely new ride which is unique and has been designed especially for Adventure Island.

"The new ride will be based between two towers about 200ft high and will link the two ends of the western side of the theme park.

"It has been designed as a family ride and it will be interactive, with users able to determine a choice of paths between the two pylons.

"At the moment, it is in the very early stages and we have only just applied for planning permission for the two pylons from Southend Council.

"While I don't want to reveal all the details at the moment, it is one of the most exciting new rides we have planned at Adventure Island.

"Visitors will be able to fly high in the air and get fantastic views of Southend, the Thames Estuary, the pier and the rest of the theme park.

"We try and provide a package for everyone at Adventure Island and the new ride will be a whole family experience."

A planning application for the new ride has been lodged with Southend Council.

The proposal will be considered over the next month by planning officers before a final decision is taken by councillors.
