Travelling Burnham... from New Zealand

Travelling Burnham... from New Zealand Travelling Burnham... from New Zealand

This photo was taken at a fete in about 1938 on the Mildmay Ironworks sports field, Burnham.

The fete, I believe, was organised by the Congregational Church, which used to be on the corner of Chapel Road. I think I can still remember the names of a number of the people in the photo – from left to right are Alan Duce, Mick Whiting, Molly Cable, Gilliam Gooch, Diana Skipper, yours truly in dark jacket, and peering round from behind the guy running the stall is Paddy Short.

I enjoy reading the Maldon and Burnham Standard website and, with the help of Google Earth, I have a nostalgic time travelling along the streets of Burnham looking at the various shops, houses and buildings, a lot of which I remember.

The only store I have seen still with the same name as when I lived in Burnham is King and Hines.
