Are you the owner of a love machine?

A survey from fish4cars (www.fish4cars.co.uk) can reveal we are a nation of amorous drivers who like nothing more than a little passion on the road!

The survey of 18 to 50 year olds identified that 62% have been caught in a compromising position in their car more than once. Only 12% of those surveyed claimed to have never been caught out despite having been quite active in their car.

Out of those surveyed, 80% admitted to being frisky in their car between the age of 16 to 35 years, 6% claim that they were using their car for romantic encounters over the age of 35 years, and 13% claimed they had never had an amorous encounter in a car before.

When asked if they had ever bought a car with the sole purpose for engaging in amorous activities, 3% of those surveyed confirmed that they had indeed bought a car to give them privacy away from the home. Despite the figures above, we seem to be a nation of careful motor maters, with 57% of those surveyed claiming they have never been caught by a member of the public! Only 5% have been unfortunate enough to be caught out regularly, and 11% were caught out just once.

The most popular cars our respondents claimed to have played host to these encounters were (in descending order): Ford Fiesta, BMW 3 Series, Vauxhall Astra, Porsche 911, Mini Cooper, Mazda MX5 and Land Rover.

Interestingly the Smart Car, a black cab and a limousine all have fallen victim to the romantic engagements between frisky couples!

Our respondents were asked to share some of their funniest stories, and one which stood out was of a car rolling down hill in the midst of an embrace and crashing into a tree. The couple had to be rescued by the fire services but more embarrassing was the fact that the car belonged to the parents of the lady and the incident occurred just outside their family home!

Another funny encounter caused an injury when the hand-break of the car broke in the throes of passion, and the man had to visit accident and emergency for treatment.

Our feedback also showed that many couples have been spotted by other couples, police, ramblers and teenagers whilst busying themselves in their car – on one occasion in a supermarket car park.

Stewart Black, Head Sales fish4cars comments “The results from this survey show that us Brits are exciting lovers who enjoy an adventure! However, people must remember that whilst getting caught might add to the excitement of the encounter, it is still illegal so lovers should be careful about what they choose to do”. He adds “The survey shows that we do live up to our reputation of being hot headed lovers who like nothing more than a touch of risk to spice up our lives”.

And a note to parents, 7% of our respondents confessed to borrowing their parent’s cars for romantic liaisons, 12% confessed to borrowing a friend’s car and 8% a sibling’s car!
