AN MP has welcomed police speed checks following fears over road safety near a school.
Witham MP Dame Priti Patel raised serious concerns after witnessing issues outside Tiptree Heath Primary School in October.
Problems included speeding vehicles, drivers ignoring a school crossing patrol officer and vehicles driving on the edge of the narrow pathway as children were walking past.
A parent is also reported to have been hit by a lorry at the start of October.
Police and the Safer Roads Partnership were at the school to carry out speed checks last month.
Officers and the school tried to educate drivers by allowing pupils to speak to them about the dangers they are posing to children, parents and staff.
Dame Priti said: "Last month I raised concerns with the police over speeding and the lack of road safety measures outside Tiptree Heath Primary School.
"It is encouraging to see Essex Police and the Safer Roads Partnership outside the school undertaking speed checks."
