A POTENTIAL ‘large car meet’ has sparked a huge Essex Police dispersal orders giving them the power to arrest anyone suspected of antisocial behaviour in Chelmsford, Maldon, and Braintree.

The orders will be in place from 5pm on Saturday May 4 until 5am on Sunday May 6 and covers the area shown on the map.

The dispersal orders give officers powers to direct anyone suspected of causing anti-social behaviour to leave the area or face arrest.

Inspector Philip Jackson said: “We know real issues have been caused for people living nearby during past events of this nature.

“This includes concerns arising over the noise and nature of the driving during these events.

Insp Jackson added: “We’ve also previously seen collisions, crime and disorder take place as a consequence, as well as roads blocked while races take place – causing serious risk to all involved.”

“Taking this action will hopefully prevent the event from taking place but gives officers the power to direct anyone believed to be taking part to leave the area to ensure the safety of the public using our roads.”
