A FAMOUS children's author attended a Bradwell school to read out part of his new book, which is partly set in the town.
Michael Morpurgo visited St Cedds C of E Primary School to read a passage from his new book, Finding Alfie, set to come out in early May.
The book hopes to spread awareness to young children about the D-Day Landing, which happened 80 years ago on June 6.
Michael left the children with a signed copy of the book and they gave him a watercolour painting of St Peters Chapel.
David Thorpe, churchwarden, school trustee and administrator for St Peter's Chapel, said: "The school were very excited to have Michael there to talk to them.
"He read part of his new book ‘Finding Alfie’ to all the school and they loved it.
"Afterwards, they asked him many questions about his books and life."
Michael also met with Angela Rippon to film a piece for the One Show.
They visited St Thomas Church, in Bradwell High Street; St Cedd's C of E School, in East End Road; and Chapel St Peters-on-the-wall, also in East End Road.
Finding Alfie was inspired by real, historic events and is set in Morpurgo's family home, Bradwell, as well as in Normandy.
Michael has a deep love for Bradwell-on-Sea, having grown up there from ages 9 to 16.
Several of his books include parts set in Bradwell and the Chapel.
Finding Alfie even mentions an old man at the Chapel who he vaguely remembers visiting as a child.
This man was the famous wildfowler Walter Linnet, who lived with his family in the small house near the chapel.
